Geneva Tourism describes the Escalade as the city's most popular historical festival. Historical parades begin in the Old Town on Saturday 12 December, with hundreds of participants in period costume accompanied by drums, trumpets and brass bands.
The Grand Historical Parade closes the festival on Sunday 13 December. Over the weekend the squares and alleys of the Old Town host artisan demonstrations, traditional food stands, patriotic songs and period speeches. The celebration has run for more than 400 years.
